In today's electronic world, many gardeners and gardener wannabes look at potential seed and plant purchases through an app on a phone or tablet. I'm old-school. I still like an actual paper catalog in my hands to flip pages back and forth as I dog-ear pages of favorite photos and planned purchases. I like being able to compare prices side-by-side between two, three, or four catalogs at a time. For me, that's easier than trying bounce between web pages.
You can order free catalogs from most seed and plant companies. Clicking a link on their home page and filling in your email or home address is all that's needed to get the process rolling. While you can shop online catalogs year-round, the printed catalogs are usually mailed out in December, January, and February. In time to order what you need for a new garden season.
Because so many companies will send you a catalog just for asking, you can search the net and order from every seed company you stumble across. I've done that to build a library of catalogs. I like to have access for me and anyone else who might want to thumb through the plant-filled pages.
To be more effective with your catalog requests, ask fellow gardeners and friends what catalogs they like. You'll probably find many common likes. I mention many of my favorites in my VLOG, linked below. The best seed and plant companies are well known and well liked by a majority of gardeners. The big names are recognized throughout the gardening community, but not all big name companies provide quality products.
The best way to find who has good products and service and who doesn't is to ask someone who has ordered from catalogs before. A good review from someone you know and trust can pay great dividends and the reputable companies strive for those good personal reviews.
You can find some of my favorites and links to their sites at my video on seed catalogs. You can see my enthusiasm for these great resources and learn a little more about I approach ordering seeds. And, of course, you can see some of the beautiful pictures that makes it all worthwhile. Take a look:
